Leicestershire’s half-summer events include street art finale and monster hunt

Leicestershire is hosting a number of family events this term. The city’s streets are set to come alive, while monster hunts and teddy bear picnics will also take place over the coming week.

The fun kicks off in Leicester – just hours after children break for half term – in a splash of color as the Bring the Paint street festival wraps up the weekend. The ‘legal graffiti’ event saw areas of the city transformed with new artwork, and on Saturday (May 25) Jubilee Square was transformed into a skate and BMX park with live DJs.

Meanwhile, Frog Island Mill is hosting a day full of training activities including face painting on Sunday (May 26). People will also get the chance to view the new artwork around the city with the Graffwalk app to track Leicester’s new street art.

On Sunday, the streets of Leicester will ‘come alive’ for the Open Streets and Heritage event. The event is a celebration of cycling, allowing people to explore the closed streets of the city and take part in a series of events for the whole family.

Half term week will also see some of Leicestershire’s biggest attractions host events to give parents a much needed break. At Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, children can enter the Knight School, don some armor and learn how to fight like a knight. Advance booking is recommended before the event for children aged 5-14, which takes place on Monday 27 May.

Throughout the term week, Bosworth Battlefield is also hosting a ‘Mythical Monster Hunt’ around the battlefield grounds. The heritage center will also be taken over by the Harrington Household Living History group of reenactors on Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2, with everyone doing their part to bring the medieval period to life. Archery and historical board games will also be offered. More information can be found on the Bosworth Battlefield website.

Elsewhere, Leicester’s Curve hosts a ‘delightful’ adaptation of the best-selling book Dear Zoo, which is suitable for all ages, while Abbey Pumping Station remains free all week. On Tuesday (May 28) the station will host a railway day where for just 50 lei people can travel on the narrow gauge steam train.
