Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca is set for a job interview at Chelsea

Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca is to be interviewed by Chelsea as they search for a new boss, according to the Evening Standard.

Leicester City have had Maresca at the helm for just one year, bringing him in as manager after relegation from the Premier League.

The Italian arrived from Manchester City with the sole aim of winning promotion from the Championship. That was what the Foxes did too, recovering from a run of form to go up as league winners.

Maresca’s success and sharp style of play has seen his stock rise. He was recently linked with the job at former club Sevilla, but surprising rumors of a move to Chelsea emerged this week.

The 44-year-old is set to be among the final four candidates for the vacant post.

Now the Evening Standard report that Chelsea will interview the Leicester City boss. The West London club are keeping their options open with Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna also on their radar, but the Maresca rumors appear to be intensifying.

Separate reports claim he has a release clause of around £8.5m and would be interested in a move.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Moving?

Maresca arrived at Leicester City as a highly regarded manager and since his move to the King Power Stadium has proven his skills as a leader in the dugout.

His only previous spell as a manager was a brief spell at Parma, where he struggled to impress.

Many have predicted that the Italian is a manager who will end up leading a top club in the years to come, but few would have predicted that he would make such a leap so early. Of course, whether he moves remains to be seen, but with an interview pending, it seems like there’s a real chance it could happen.

His possession-based style and experience with Manchester City’s top players are among the attributes that will mean he is admired at a high level of the game.

A tough position for the Foxes

Losing your manager is never an easy matter, but getting a new boss capable of leading Leicester City into the Premier League will prove difficult. So if Maresca leaves, replacing him could be difficult.

A move will reportedly require a healthy compensation fee, which could prove useful for the Foxes as they look to get back on the right side of the PSR regulations this summer.

What will be intriguing to see is whether Leicester pursue a manager of a similar profile to Maresca. Another possession-based manager could make for an easy transition for the players, but that style of play might not suit the Foxes as well as they step up to the next level.

If a boss comes in with different ideas and tactics, the sooner they are brought in the better. That way, they have plenty of time to implement their fresh style before the campaign begins.
