Two men who are accused of plotting to carry out a gun attack on the Jewish community in the north west of England are due to go on trial next autumn.

Walid Saadaoui, 36, and Amar Hussein, 50, are accused of preparing acts of terrorism between December 13, 2023 and May 9.

The indictment against them alleges that they “made arrangements to purchase the supply of firearms, carried out reconnaissance and made plans to attack”.

Mr. Saadaoui’s brother, Bilel, 35, is accused of failing to disclose information about acts of terrorism.

All three defendants appeared by video link from custody for a hearing at the Old Bailey before Mr Justice Jeremy Baker.

Prosecutor Jocelyn Ledward said: “The case relates primarily, in relation to the first two defendants, to a plan to carry out an Isil or Daesh-inspired terrorist attack in the United Kingdom.”

She said it was assumed they “intended to cause more deaths using automatic weapons.”

“The main targets of the attack plans were the Jewish community in North West England, members of the law enforcement and the military,” she added.

“The prosecution alleges that he took significant steps to prepare for that attack.”

Mr Justice Baker said a 12-week trial would take place at Preston Crown Court from October 7, 2025.

Further hearings at the Old Bailey have been set for October 25 and December 20 this year.

Walid Saadaoui, of Crankwood Road, Abram, Wigan, Bilel Saadaoui, of Fairclough Street, Hindley, Wigan, and Amar Hussein, of no fixed abode, spoke to confirm their identities during the hearing.

The defendants were still remanded in custody.
