Sheffield’s Supertram network is set to be affected by disruption from today as work takes place.

Engineering work starts on Saturday (May 25) and is expected to last until June 3 in a bid to upgrade the tracks.

This is the first phase of refurbishment of the tram network, with further delays and disruptions expected in other areas of the network over the summer.

According to Supertram, the work is “critical” to securing the long-term future of the city-wide light rail network.

In a statement provided by Supertram themselves, they said: “The new track will provide a better travel experience for passengers – improving comfort and reducing noise in areas where the tracks are currently worn – as well as reducing the risk of network closures for safety. grounds.”

They added: “Every effort has been made to minimize disruption, but services will be affected.”

The disruption will be felt on every line of service, with reduced frequencies and permanent shutdowns expected throughout the week.

Services on the Blue and Yellow Lines will only run between the University of Sheffield and Malin/Middlewood Bridge, with trams running 20 minutes during the day as well as bypassing Nethertrope Road station to help with the refurbishment.

A temporary Green Line will help ease pressures on people commuting into the city centre, with extra services between Halfway and Sheffield Station, as well as another line linking Hyde Park and Meadowhall Interchange.

Services will have an average frequency of 12 minutes and allow direct journeys between Halfway and Meadowhall Interchange without the need to change trams.
