Storm warning for the West Midlands as the Met Office predicts flooding and road closures

Birmingham and the West Midlands will be hit by rain and thunderstorms on Sunday – with an official weather warning. The Met Office has put a yellow weather warning in place for Bank Holiday Sunday – and warned that flooding and disruption are on the cards.

The warning is in effect for eight hours, starting at noon on Sunday, May 26. Met Office forecasters say: “Slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms may cause flooding and disruption in places.”




It comes amid highly volatile weather in the region. Saturday, when Birmingham Pride takes place, looks set to be warm and settled, but there are parts of the UK facing sub-zero temperatures for several days.

The Met Office is warning that thunderstorms are expected in the early afternoon – around 1pm. There will also be widespread showers throughout the afternoon.

A spokesman said wind would also be expected on Saturday. They said: “A cloudy start with patchy rain gradually breaking into sunny spells and scattered showers. These heavy at times with a chance of thunder and gusts. High 18C.”

Conditions will improve for the bank holiday, particularly in the afternoon. A brisk breeze and outbreaks of rain on Tuesday, followed by showers or longer spells of rain on Wednesday.
