How Leeds United’s average attendance compares to their Championship rivals this season

Leeds United’s Championship season may have ended with a whimper, but their supporters will be in full voice again ahead of their play-off semi-final against Norwich City this weekend.

The Whites travel to Carrow Road in their first encounter before hosting the Canaries in West Yorkshire four days later. Daniel Farke has led his side to third in the table, taking four points from their last six games.

But despite their poor recent form, Leeds fans have continued to support the team in their numbers. Having picked up 37 points on their travels this term, Elland Road have enjoyed most of their success, boasting the second best home record in the division behind Ipswich Town.

And that support has seen the Whites rank among the best average attendances in the Championship this season. But how do Leeds stack up against their second-tier rivals this campaign?

When looking at the stats, United are second in the table with an average of 35,989 fans packed into Elland Road each week. The only side that exceeds Leeds’ average attendance is Sunderland. The Black Cats boast the ninth largest football stadium in England and averaged 41,158 for their home games.

Leeds’ promotion rivals Leicester City, Southampton and Ipswich Town make up the top five. Sheffield Wednesday proved to be the only anomaly to finish three points outside the relegation zone, still managing to average 26,762 fans at Hillsborough.
