An investigation is underway after a massive fire ripped through a property in Handsworth. Crews from West Midlands Fire Service were called to the large period house at the junction of Hamstead Road and Broughton Road at around 5.30am on Saturday (May 25).

The entire building was engulfed in flames, with windows blown out, exterior walls blackened with smoke. There was no official word on injuries or whether the premises were occupied at the time.

Uniformed officers were maintaining a cordon at the scene Saturday night. Meanwhile, firefighters were removing charred and burnt furniture and placing it in the front garden.
