Nicki Minaj is ‘arrested’ shortly before Manchester Arena show

American singer and rapper Nicki Minaj was arrested in the Netherlands. According to local reports, the 41-year-old man was detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

The music star filmed and shared her encounter with the police on social media. In the video, a police officer can reportedly be heard telling Minaj, “You’re under arrest.” A statement to the PA news agency of the National Police Corps said that a woman, aged 41, was arrested after allegedly trying to take soft drugs from Schiphol airport to another country. They confirmed at around 7.30pm that she remains in custody and the force is still investigating.

Minaj, who was due to perform at Manchester’s Co-op Live Arena on Saturday, posted a series of messages on X apparently related to the incident, the BBC reports.

“They took my luggage without consent,” she wrote in one. In another, she added: “This is Amsterdam (by the way) where weed is legal,” using a colloquial term for the drug cannabis. The singer was originally scheduled to take the stage at 8 p.m.

The BBC has approached Minaj’s representatives for comment. PA said promoters Live Nation and the Co-op Live venue had been contacted for comment.
