Man charged with murder after woman found dead in Sheffield

A man has been charged with murder after a woman’s body was found in Sheffield.

Emily Sanderson, 48, was discovered Tuesday in a home in the Hillsborough area.

Mark Nicholls, 43, was charged with her murder on Saturday after being arrested the day before, South Yorkshire Police said.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in court on Monday.

“Emily’s body was discovered inside a property on Crofton Avenue at around midday on Tuesday 30 May. A post-mortem examination determined that she died of head injuries,” a police statement said.

“A 40-year-old woman, arrested on Wednesday, May 31, being suspected of assisting criminals, remains on police bail.”

Ms Sanderson was reported missing on May 25 and has not been heard from since May 19, Chief Inspector Andrea Bowell said.

The force approached the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Mrs Bowell added: “The property on Crofton Avenue where Emily’s body was found has undergone a thorough and extensive forensic examination.

“This is necessary to gather as much evidence as possible to help us understand exactly what happened.”
