Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sir Alex Ferguson share a rare moment after Manchester United won the FA Cup

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson shared a quick handshake at Wembley Stadium before parting ways after their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

Ferguson was seated next to INEOS’ Sir David Brailsford during the match with Ratcliffe sat a row in front a few seats away from Avram Glazer. All involved will no doubt be pleased with the display United put in to lift the trophy on Saturday.

Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring in the 30th minute when a mix-up between Josko Gvardiol and Stefan Ortega allowed him to tap home into an empty net. Ten minutes later United made it their second and a well worked move was finished off by Kobbie Mainoo.

Unsurprisingly, City rallied after the break, but United never looked like they were in much danger. Jeremy Doku ensured it would be a nervy finish though when his shot went past Andre Onana, but it was only a consolation as the Reds won the FA Cup for the first time since 2016.

The full-time whistler was greeted with jubilant scenes from those of a United persuasion, but was much more relaxed in the mixed area at Wembley Stadium after lifting the trophy. As the United directors parted, Ratcliffe and Ferguson shared a brief handshake before the legendary boss declared the result: “Fantastic”.

The next few days are expected to be busy at Old Trafford as Erik ten Hag’s future as manager is decided. Reports this week suggested the Dutchman would be sacked regardless of the result at Wembley, but MEN Sports have been told by United sources that no decision will be made until after the FA Cup final.
