‘Like Primul Gattuso’ – Paul Scholes praises Manchester United midfielder in FA Cup final

Paul Scholes compared Sofyan Amrabat to Italian great Gennaro Gattuso after his change in Manchester United’s FA Cup final win over Man City.

The Moroccan played the full 90 minutes and finished with a pass accuracy of 92.6% in what is expected to be his last game for United. The midfielder is on a season-long loan from Fiorentina, but United are unlikely to trigger his £21million buy-out clause.

Amrabat has enjoyed a resurgence in form in recent weeks, but his overall output since his deadline day arrival has been disappointing, with United initially paying £8m for the loan spell.

Scholes was impressed by Amrabat’s performance at Wembley after the 27-year-old was selected to play ahead of Casemiro, who could also leave the club this summer. Former England and United star Scholes took to Instagram to share his praise for Amrabat after full-time.

Scholes likened him to Milan legend Gattuso, who was known for his ability to sweep attacks and quality defensive play in midfield. Above the photo of Amrabat lifting the FA Cup, he wrote: “Like a first Gattusso (sic) today.” A final decision on Amrabat will be made in the coming weeks.

United will be looking for a new midfielder this summer, as well as a centre-back and a striker. Numbers would be needed in the center of the park if Amrabat wasn’t brought back and Casemiro sold.

Only four players – Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana – are exempt from offers, with Raphael Varane, Tom Heaton, Jonny Evans and Anthony Martial all out of contract next month.
