Former homes of The Beatles fans can remain

Several of The Beatles’ former homes are available to rent as Airbnbs.

The four normal boys from the suburbs of Liverpool would go on to change the trajectory of music and pop culture and now, fans can stay in their childhood homes and see where their stories began.

Both properties are full of Fab Four memorabilia and have period features from when the singers called the house home.

George Harrison

George Harrison’s childhood home is available for people to stay as Airbnb.

The Beatles guitarist moved into the terraced house at 25 Upton Green in Speke in 1949, when he was six, and stayed there until the 1960s. It was during his time at the house that George met Paul McCartney and John Lennon, and the three held some of their first rehearsals there.

Wanting to share his passion with other music fans, Ken Lambert, from New Hampshire, bought the house when it went under the hammer with Omega Auctions in 2022. Since then, he’s added a mural to the outside of the back garden and added props . through all the rooms.

The three-bedroom family home, which sold at auction for £171,000, still bears some of the period features from when the Harrisons lived in it, including the bathroom, sink, some original doors, hanging rails in wardrobes and full outbuildings with original doors and decoration.

Ken explained how the Harrisons lived on this terraced house at the same time that the Beatles were beginning their journey to stardom and success. This property, located in a gated residential area, is approximately 20 minutes outside of Liverpool.

As part of the experience, guests can stay in George’s former bedroom and play several guitars that sit in the flower-decorated living room where the Fab Four rehearsed. Guests can also listen to old Beatles albums on the retro record player and have their photo taken with a young George as he leaves to play an early gig for The Quarrymen.

Around the house are photos of George growing up and the Fab Four performing in the early days.

The property can even be booked from this weekend – Friday 24 May – for a minimum stay of two nights. The cost varies between £200 and £500 depending on the date.

John Lennon

A house where John Lennon lived as a child has been turned into an Airbnb, and guests are staying there.

The Grade II listed building on Allerton Road was owned by George Smith, husband of John Lennon’s aunt Mimi. The musician stayed in the house as a child with his mother, Julia, and after his mother’s death he frequently visited the house and his family.

Kelley Kupfer – who is from America – bought the property in Allerton Road, Woolton, by chance after wanting to fulfill a bucket list after a serious illness.

The retired nurse suffered a brain tumor several years ago, which left her blind for nine months and affected her speech.

As part of her bucket list, the 60-year-old took a guided tour and shortly afterwards was told to meet Jackie Spencer – a Beatles expert from Liverpool. After a guided tour of Liverpool’s most important Beatles hot spots, Kelley wondered why no one had started an AirBnB to let people into their homes.

Then in 2016 the property came on the market for £325,000 with Whitegate’s Woolton branch and she snapped it up.

The retired nurse filled the house with thoughtful memorabilia and some never-before-seen pictures provided by Lennon’s family.

The furniture is also placed the way the Beatles would have it when they lived there, with frames and plaques to explain the artefacts placed around the house.

In the back garden, there is also a soundproof recording studio where bands and artists can record their songs or just want to relax and play a few tunes.

The rooms were also given titles after the family members who lived there.
