Leicester City are eyeing a move for the Feyenoord defender following Liverpool’s decision

Leicester City are said to be considering an ambitious move for highly-rated Feyenoord defender David Hancko.

City are likely to be on the lookout for a left-back this summer, with Callum Doyle returning to Manchester City after his season-long loan. In terms of his qualities, Hancko, a 37-cap Slovakia international, fits the bill perfectly.

A centre-back who can also play at left-back, Hancko has been hugely impressive in the Eredivisie, showing excellent ball progression qualities through both passing and dribbling, while also providing a threat up top. He scored 11 goals and provided eight assists in two seasons at Feyenoord.

The Mail report that City are exploring a move for Hancko and hope to take advantage of Liverpool turning down the chance to reunite the Slovakian with manager Arne Slot, who is moving from Feyenoord to Anfield this summer. At 26, Hancko is said to not fit Liverpool’s preference for younger defenders this summer.

However, previous reports suggested that Feyenoord would be looking for more than €30m (£26m) to part with Hancko, who has four years left on his contract at the club. That would potentially be too high a figure for City, who will have a “low-key” summer of business, according to manager Enzo Maresca, amid the club’s attempts to comply with profit and sustainability regulations.

City fans keen to see Hancko can watch him this summer as Slovakia compete at Euro 2024. They have been drawn in a group with Belgium, Ukraine and Romania.
