Thunderstorm warning in Greater Manchester as the Met Office issues an alert

Greater Manchester is bracing for a wet and stormy day – as thousands descend on the city for major events. The Great Manchester Run takes place this morning (May 26).

More than 30,000 people are expected to attend the annual event. And tonight Manchester City supporters will be lining the streets to cheer their Premier League winning heroes.




But the region has been hit with a yellow weather warning for storms by the Met Office. The warning will come into effect from 12pm and last until 8pm this evening.

The Met Office says thatheavy low-moving showers and thunderstorms may cause flooding and disruption in some places”. People are urged to take care on the roads and prepare for possible travel and power disruptions.

Greater Manchester will experience spells of rain starting this morning, before thunder arrives at lunchtime and continues into the evening in some areas. Here’s the full forecast for Sunday, district by district.
