Matt Peet praised intensity and focus as wigan warriors beat salford red devils 26-6 at salford stadium.

The Warriors returned to Betfred Super League action with a second win of the season over the Red Devils after a battling performance in attack and defence.

Reflecting on the win, Peet said: “It was a nice win. We started with intensity, we were connected in defense and our concentration levels were up against a Salford side who ask a lot of questions. We did quite a lot in the early game so when Salford had the purple patch we were able to overcome it.”

The Warriors led 18-0 at half-time after scoring three unanswered tries and in the first half, Peet said: “I’m proud of it. Our concentration levels in attack and defense were high and we looked alert and ready for Salford’s threats. I thought we were pretty good.”

Junior Nsemba scored for the second game in a row and regarding the performance of the forwards, Peet said: “We are very proud of the way Junior is carrying himself when it comes to his attitude to improve and focus on performance and training. ”

Peet added: “He is a very popular member of this team with both players and coaches. He’s a pleasure to coach and he’s always been the same when he’s done it – he’s driven, he’s hardworking and you can tell he’s been brought up well by his family.”

Of Harry Smith, who was named Sky Sports player of the match, Peet said: “There are some teams, when the weather changes, you know they’ve got players who can handle the kicking game – Harry did that. It was a good battle between Harry and Marc (Sneyd) in terms of game management and their footwork – I was pleased with Harry and his intelligence.”

Mike Cooper and Harvie Hill are back in the side and on the duo, Peet said: “They are both excellent players who are in the mix anyway. It was a game where the middle unit had to focus as you were challenged with a lot of smart play. Overall, I thought our concentration levels were good.”

Praising the Warriors’ depth in the middle, Peet added, “It’s a strength of ours. A lot of people tell me about the difficulty of having depth and competition in that position, but you need it because the forward pack is the only area where you’re tested all year. The forward guys all compete, but they do it together, which makes it a pleasure to coach. They all have slightly different skill sets, but their chemistry is good.”
