SQUAMISH, BC — Mountaineers say two people are dead after a plane crash near Squamish, BC

An RCMP statement says police were able to access the crash site from a distance south of Squamish on the western side of Howe Sound by air Saturday and confirmed that the plane’s two occupants did not survive.

The plane crash was reported late Friday after an automated crash notification from a smartphone.

The police statement said investigators are working with the Transportation Safety Board and the BC Coroners Service to determine the cause of the crash.

The statement thanks Squamish Search and Rescue, Blackcomb Helicopters and “several members of the public” for their help in locating and accessing the crash site.

Police have not released details about the victims of the accident.
