Live: M5 traffic is at a standstill as tourists clog the roads

Tourists flocked to Cornwall, Devon and Somerset on Friday and Saturday and many are now returning home and clogging up the M5 and other routes en route. There is stop and go traffic on the M5 northbound through Somerset which is expected to get busier as the day goes on.

The traffic cameras between junctions 20 and 24 show the traffic building. National Highways reports that drivers are being held up in some places, particularly around junction 22 and around junction 21. There is also slow traffic around junction 17, close to Bristol Airport.

Inrix reports: “Stop-start traffic on M5 northbound at J21 A370 (Weston-super-mare).”

There are also delays on the A30 as people leave Cornwall at the end of the long weekend.
