Sheffield Wednesday have sparked interest in Arsenal ace Mika Biereth

Sheffield Wednesday are showing renewed interest in Arsenal striker Mika Biereth, a report from The Star has said.

Sheffield Wednesday are gearing up for another season of Championship football after successfully fighting relegation to League One.

And they will with Danny Rohl at the helm. The highly-rated German has penned a new long-term deal at Hillsborough amid questions over his future.

However, new signings are a must if the Owls are to climb further up the Championship table and there have been reports of revived interest in a winter transfer target.

The Star claims Sheffield Wednesday are back on the trail of Danish striker Mika Biereth.

Wednesday wanted the Dane on loan in January after a strong spell with Motherwell, but ended up joining Sturm Graz in Austria. He continued to impress there, proving his talents in the Europa Conference League as he took his tally to 15 goals and nine assists in all competitions.

The Owls face competition from other UK clubs and teams in Europe for Biereth.

An ideal move?

After proving his skills in the first flights of Scotland and Austria, the Championship could be the ideal place for Biereth to take the next step.

If a Premier League future awaits you, proving yourself in the second tier will go a long way. This should give hope to Sheffield Wednesday as they look to strengthen their attacking ranks.

With a top manager like Rohl at the helm, you’d fancy the Owls’ chances of tempting some top prospects to Hillsborough as well.

Managers will know promising players can be trusted on Wednesday with Rohl in charge. They will receive a high level of training under his watch and he can help them return to their parent clubs as better players.

Striker’s situation

Looking at the forward options at Hillsborough, you’d back Biereth to get some good game time as well.

Ever wanted Ike Ugbo sees his Sheffield Wednesday loan come to an end. The same goes for Ashley Fletcher, although she almost certainly won’t be back for another stint.

Lee Gregory moves on, Callum Paterson’s future remains up in the air. A couple of new forward signings could also pave the way for Michael Smith to move on as well, while it will be interesting to see how much action Bailey Cadamarteri gets after his breakthrough.

In short, Sheffield Wednesday’s forward department could look very different at the start of next season, but time will tell if Biereth is part of it.
