Texas A&M gets the No. 3 seed

COLLEGE STATION — The Texas Longhorns head to Texas A&M for an NCAA baseball regional.

The Aggies (44-13) are the nation’s No. 3 seed and host a regional that includes Texas (35-22), Louisiana (40-18) and Grambling (26-26). The regional is matched with the Cal-Santa Barbara regional.

A&M spent part of the season as the nation’s top-ranked team and beat Texas 9-2 on March 5 at Disch-Falk Field.

Other programs from the region in the NCAA Tournament are LSU in the Chapel Hill, NC regional; Dallas Baptist in Tucson, Arizona, regional; Louisiana Tech in Fayetteville, Ark., regional; and Tulane and Nicholls in the Corvallis, Ore., regional.

Tennessee is the top seed and fellow SEC program Kentucky is the no. 2, followed by the SEC’s Aggies. Tournament regular TCU was one of the top four teams in the 64-team postseason, and Lamar also missed out despite a 44-15 overall record and a three-game sweep of the No. 1 seed. 9 Oklahoma in the regular season.

The Aggies will play Grambling in the first game of the regional doubleheader Friday at noon, and Texas will play Louisiana Friday at 5 p.m.

Louisiana is the second seed in the region and the Longhorns are third.
