Live: Huge rush hour delays on the A38 Tamar Bridge

Motorists have been warned today (Wednesday 8 May) of long rush hour delays over the Tamar Bridge. A recovery of the damaged vehicle has caused commuter traffic on the bridge this afternoon.

Tamar Crossing posted on social media to warn motorists of long delays. It said: “Partly due to a broken down vehicle on the bridge (since recovered) there is an increase in traffic volume both eastbound (Plymouth direction) and westbound (Cornwall direction), expect delays.”

There are believed to be delays of around 30 minutes on the A38 approaching the Tamar Bridge. Roads and traffic monitoring website Inrix also reports: “Traffic heavier than normal on the A38 westbound before the Tamar Bridge heading towards Cornwall. Travel time is 30 minutes.”

This evening’s delays come after Torpoint ferry crossings were reduced to a ferry service earlier this morning. CornwallLive reported that the major delays were caused by a “technical fault” on one of the ferries.
