The royal family’s favorite TV series revealed: From Bridgerton to the Crown and Game of Thrones | Liverpool Echo

When it comes to the hustle and bustle of royal duties, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the royal family barely has a moment to themselves.

But when they do take a break, they’re just like us and enjoy kicking back with their favorite TV shows. Just last week, Queen Camilla sent royal fans into a frenzy when she let slip that she was dating Bridgerton.

Her revelation came during her visit to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, perfectly timed with her tour of a garden inspired by the Netflix sensation. While admiring the screen shot by Holly Johnston, Regina said: “I watched the first batch” of Bridgerton’s third season, eagerly anticipating the release of the second part on June 13.

But it wasn’t just Bridgerton who captivated the royal family, the Mirror reports. Over time, several hit series have made their way onto the royal family’s watch list and gained approval.

The crown:

Despite delving into some controversial chapters in royal history, The Crown, Netflix’s dramatization of Queen Elizabeth’s reign, has surprisingly found favor with the royal family.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, Vanessa Kirby, who portrayed Princess Margaret, once said: “A friend of mine was at a party and he didn’t know anyone, so he approached this group who they were talking about The Crown. A girl. said, “Well, my grandmother is watching it and she really likes it.” Slowly it dawned on him that the girl was Eugenie and her grandmother was Regina.

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York and Eugenie’s mother, is also a big fan of the show, admitting she “loved” how her 1986 wedding to Prince Andrew was depicted in Season 4.

The British have talent:

With the winners of Britain’s Got Talent getting the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance, it’s no surprise that the royals are big fans of the show. Prince Harry even expressed his love for the program.

Judge Amanda Holden revealed in an interview with The Independent that Harry cheekily asked if then judge Piers Morgan was “really a lunatic”. She answered honestly: “You can’t say that, but yes!”.

Game of thrones:

Prince William previously revealed that he and Kate are avid fans of the fantasy drama series Game of Thrones, which aired from 2011 to 2019. This unexpected revelation came during a radio show when William recommended the show to the host who did not had seen yet. .

“You should definitely watch Game of Thrones, it’s worth watching,” he advised her.

What’s more, Jaqen H’ghar actor Tom Wlaschiha even shared with the Evening Standard that they tried to tease him with spoilers, claiming they’ve “watched every series”. He recounted: “They wanted spoilers but I said I can’t tell them. I’m surprised they have time to watch such a long series.”

Fireman Sam:

Even young royals love a good TV show. Prince George made such an impression on the animated series “Fireman Sam” that the show’s creators made him a custom episode. Sharing the news on BBC Radio One, Kate Middleton said: “Fireman Sam has attracted a lot of interest.”

In addition to his fascination with the characters, George was also captivated by the helicopters in the series. Seeing his relentless support, the makers decided to dedicate an entire episode to the young Royal.

For the 30th anniversary, both George and William were given a cameo in an episode called: The Prince in Pontypandy. Set in the fictional Welsh village of Pontypandy, where Sam and his fire crew live, the quiet town has been visited by an unnamed royal prince.

During the visit, Sam and his team are tasked with organizing the event. However, when one of the residents falls into a ravine, the prince himself comes to the rescue in a helicopter.

Prince William’s involvement in the RAF, flying search and rescue helicopters, has been unequivocally mentioned.

Strictly Come Dancing:

A show consistently loved by the royals is the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing. The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, and her mother Carole are known fans of the dance competition.

It seems even young Prince Louis couldn’t escape his charms when he visited the bustling set last December. He was visibly enthralled watching all the commotion backstage, leaving with a special request for one of the props – a costume crown.

Danger:

Jeopardy may not be a household name in the UK, but it has a firm place in American living rooms. Coincidentally, in an appearance on The Late Late Show hosted by James Corden in February 2021, Prince Harry confessed that he too has succumbed to this quiz show.

Harry shared a glimpse of his and Meghan’s typical evening: “Meg might cook a meal, we might order a takeaway, go upstairs, stay in bed, turn on the TV, let’s watch some Jeopardy, maybe watch a little Netflix”.

Downton Abbey:

Then there’s Downton Abbey, the ITV period drama revered by none other than Her late Majesty the Queen herself. As the Daily Telegraph reported, she usually spent her Sunday evenings immersed in the show during its run from 2011 to 2018.

The Queen apparently has a passion for the cast and stories, but was surprisingly critical of Downton Abbey, according to reports in The Queen’s newspaper. She was intimately familiar with Highclere Castle, where the series was filmed, and “would point out the things they got wrong”.

Black Viper:

In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, Prince William famously appeared on the BBC’s The Big Night In, which supported frontline workers in supporting their country by keeping people safe at home. As part of this programme, Prince William teamed up with actor Stephen Fry for a one-off sketch themed around Blackadder, which he confessed was among his favorite TV shows.

In an enlightening moment about his TV preferences, during the same act, William also opened up about missing EastEnders when he asked Stephen for advice on what to watch out for. In a humorous twist, Stephen then proposed the Netflix documentary Tiger King, to which Prince William gleefully confessed that he “avoid shows about royalty!”, leaving delighted viewers at home entertained.
