Man ‘with meat cleaver’ arrested in Georgian Quarter

This is when a man “with a meat cleaver” was arrested.

Police attended the Renshaw/Leece Street area of ​​the Georgian Quarter shortly after 6pm following reports of a man “acting in an aggressive manner”. A video shared by an eyewitness showed six police officers surrounding a man who appeared to be handcuffed.




One of the officers can be seen searching the man’s pockets before being put in the back of a police van. About four police vehicles were at the scene and a large crowd gathered to watch the unfolding events.

A 48-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested a short time later on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. According to the police, a meat cleaver was also recovered. Police confirmed that the weapon was not used to injure anyone.


Chief Inspector Andy Hughes from Merseyside Police said: “We have recently seen the positive results of a successful week of action as part of Sceptre, which aims to reduce and prevent knife crime on the streets of Merseyside.

“We are constantly working to reduce and disrupt serious violence and remove dangerous weapons from our streets.
