Drink ah Cantona! Police hunt lookalike of ex-Manchester United star after £700 worth of booze stolen from Morrison’s supermarket

An Eric Cantona lookalike is wanted by police after £700 worth of booze was stolen from a Morrison’s supermarket.

Detectives have released a CCTV image of a black-haired, bearded man in a red Nike jacket with the collar turned up who they want to speak to.

His appearance has drawn comparisons with Manchester United legend Cantona, who turned his collar up while playing for the Red Devils.

The man is described as a white man in his 30s, of medium build, around 6ft tall with short gray hair.

Internet sleuths spotted a resemblance to the former Manchester United star, who was famous for his nonchalant style and signature look of wearing his collar up.

One social network joked: “Eric Cantona has been robbed.”

A second asked: “What is Eric Cantona doing with the drink?

A third agreed: “Looks like Eric Cantona.”

Police say the theft was reported in Sheffield on March 4 when £700 worth of alcohol was taken from a Morrisons supermarket in the city.

A spokesman said: “Police would like to speak to the man shown in the CCTV image as he may be able to assist with enquiries.

He is described as a white man in his 30s, of medium build, around 6ft tall and with short gray hair.

“If you can help, you can give information to the police online or by calling 101.”

The striker, who signed for the Red Devils from rivals Leeds in 1992, scored 64 goals in 143 games for the club before announcing his shock retirement in 1997.

He then pursued a career in film and starred in the 2009 film Finding Eric.
