Manchester United are not planning to make an imminent verdict on Erik ten Hag’s future.

Club sources reiterated that United are reviewing their season but do not expect a result imminent.

United have told representatives of potential replacements they are considering keeping Ten Hag after he led the club to their 13th FA Cup triumph against Manchester City on Saturday.

Ten Hag, 52, is under contract at United until next year, with the club having the option of an additional year.

United have been evaluating a number of possible successors and have been in dialogue with intermediaries in recent weeks.

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has withdrawn as a candidate to take over at Chelsea as his preferred destination is said to be United.

Former United manager McKenna has been reluctant to make a hasty decision after leading Ipswich Town back into the Premier League and is now expected to accept a substantial offer to sign a new contract with the club.

Chelsea are favoring Leicester manager Enzo Maresca as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor and Leicester are already looking for a new manager.

Former Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel and Pochettino, dumped by Chelsea last week, would relish the chance to manage United.

Pochettino has coveted the United job for years and most players were in favor of taking over the Argentine in the summer of 2022. United’s director of football at the time, John Murtough, opted for the Ten Hag.

A report on Friday claimed that Ten Hag will be sacked regardless of the outcome of the FA Cup final. Outside sources expected Ten Hag to be sacked due to United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe refused to give assurances to Ten Hag over his future as he accepted a minority stake on Christmas Eve.

Ratcliffe and the Ineos group now involved in United’s management have hired a new chief executive in Omar Berrada and poached Dan Ashworth to become their inaugural sporting director. Former chief executive Richard Arnold and director of football Murtough have both left, as have interim chief executive Patrick Stewart and chief financial officer Cliff Baty.

Despite United’s dismal form, Ratcliffe believes the club’s structure has been more problematic than the manager and has decided to fix it by appointing Berrada, who will officially start work on July 13. Ashworth is still on gardening leave at Newcastle and United. they failed to make progress on the intended appointment.

Eighth place this season was United’s lowest since 1990 and they suffered a record 14 defeats in the Premier League era. United’s uplifting FA Cup victory secured Europa League qualification and Ten Hag is the first manager to secure silverware in back-to-back seasons since Sir Alex Ferguson in 2011.

United are preparing for another squad rebuild and are open to offers for every player except Andre Onana, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund. The club have invested over £400m in signings under the Ten Hag.
