Liverpool transfer news LIVE – Dani Olmo interest, Virgil van Dijk future, £20m Sepp van den Berg position

Arne Slot has made his first signing as Liverpool boss, bringing in a key member of his backroom staff ahead of his tenure which officially begins on June 1.

Ruben Peeters will take over as head coach of physical performance after working under Slot at Feyenoord. He follows assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff into the Liverpool dugout.

On the transfer front, the Reds continue to be linked with a move for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners. The Dutchman worked with Arne Slot at former club AZ Alkmaar and recently helped his current employers to Europa League glory.

Elsewhere, Liverpool are said to be showing interest in Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville.

Feyenoord goalkeeper addresses Liverpool links

Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow has addressed speculation over a possible move to Liverpool this summer.

The Dutch op would be reunited with Arne Slot should the Reds launch a bid for his services, which could be forced if Caoimhin Kelleher leaves.

Ian Doyle has the full story of what Bijlow had to say, here.

Sepp van den Berg’s position

Liverpool have reportedly valued Sepp van den Berg at £20million after an impressive loan spell with Mainz.

The Dutch defender has spent the last four seasons on loan, including two at Preston, one at Schalke and one at Mainz.

Athletic have said they are interested in Van den Berg from Brentford and Southampton and Wolfsburg, although “no decision” has yet been made on his future.

Van den Berg joined the Reds for an initial fee of £1.3m in 2019, rising to £4.4m in add-ons.

claims Mohamed Salah

Saudi Pro League chief executive of football Michael Emenalo has admitted that Mohamed Salah is the type of player who can “significantly improve” the division.

Salah was the subject of a £150m bid last summer, which Liverpool rejected while retaining their talisman.

Making it clear that the Egyptian, along with Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, are two players who fit the bill the Saudi league are looking for, Emenalo told The Telegraph: “It helps that publicly their performance is there, their quality is undeniable…

“All things being equal, which means their clubs, the players, the management, our situation, the stakeholders and everybody, these are the kind of players who can significantly improve what we’re trying to do. We can’t hide from that.”

Dani Olmo resigned

I wrote an article about Dani Olmo over the weekend. He is a talented attacking midfielder capable of playing anywhere behind a striker and has been sporadically linked with Liverpool for several years.

In fact, I saw him score the winner for Spain in the U21 European Championship final against Germany in 2019 and have followed his progress since then.

He has suffered a bit with injuries at RB Leipzig and there is another fairly obvious reason why I don’t see him joining Liverpool this summer.

Dani Olmo interest

Liverpool have been named as one of the clubs interested in a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo this summer.

Olmo, who joined the Bundesliga club in 2020 and signed a new contract until 2027 last summer, provided a total of eight goals and five assists in all competitions last term for his club and has been a key player in recent years.

Mundo Deportivo claimed he is now a target for Barcelona, a club where he spent seven years during his youth career before joining Dinamo Zagreb.

The article above states that Barcelona are the leaders for the 26-year-old, followed by Bayern Munich and Liverpool. Manchester United and Manchester City are also said to have “shown interest”.

The future Van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk is confident he will be part of ‘Liverpool 2.0’ under new manager Arne Slot.

The Dutch defender is out of contract next summer and has yet to agree a contract extension at the club, the same goes for Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.

Opening up on his future at the club, Van Dijk told De Telegraaf: “There has been no discussion about a new contract yet. It’s not surprising because the club has been completely busy with the new coach, the staff and everything. Then It doesn’t make sense to start working with the players You can always talk and we’ll see how it goes.

“I didn’t feel like this was a goodbye conversation and I think he also sees me in Liverpool 2.0. I got the feeling he’s glad I’m still there and I’ll be there next season so I can help him where needed. This allows us to achieve success on the field.”

Liverpool told him to make Kramaric move

Former Liverpool midfielder Igor Biscan has urged the club to sign Hoffenheim striker Andrej Kramaric this summer.

Previously on the books of Leicester City, Kramaric left the Foxes to sign for Hoffenheim in 2016 and has hit double figures in seven of the eight seasons since signing permanently for the German club.

His best return came in the 2020/21 campaign, where the 32-year-old scored 20 goals and provided six assists in 28 Bundesliga appearances.

Commenting on why Liverpool should consider a deal for Kramaric, Biscan told OLBG:

At times this season I thought he might need a really good finisher in front of goal. I’d go for a proper centre-forward, a goalscorer, because they’ve created so many chances this season and missed a lot. This is the reason why they did not stay in the title race.

I would love to see Andrej Kramaric at Liverpool, or any Croatian playing at Anfield in a red shirt, it’s always incredible. But if they do well in the Euros, then who knows? He could be a possibility. They need a good centre-forward, someone who is guaranteed 20-odd goals, that’s the position they need to strengthen.”

Jarrod Bowen gave back

Former West Ham first team manager Kevin Nolan has named Jarrod Bowen as someone who could replace Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian leaves Liverpool this summer.

Salah has continued to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in recent weeks, with his long-term future at Anfield still to be decided.

Speculating on who could fill the striker’s void if he were to go out, Nolan responded simply BBC Radio 5:— Jarrod Bowen.

Nolan recently left his role as first team manager at West Ham following the departure of David Moyes from the London Stadium.

claims James Trafford

Liverpool are ready to go head-to-head with Newcastle United to sign Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

That’s the latest suggestion from Football Insider, who claim the Clarets have placed a £20m price tag on their stopper following relegation from the Premier League.

The article above adds that Caoimhin Kelleher is “increasingly likely” to leave Anfield this summer, increasing the need for investment in that department.

The Summerville interest

Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville this summer.

The Dutchman was instrumental in the Whites reaching the Championship play-off final, scoring 19 goals and providing nine assists in the second leg, although he could not help Daniel Farke’s side clear the final hurdle at Wembley in weekend.

Leeds’ failure to secure promotion has now ensured they face a fight on their hands to keep hold of key players, one of whom is Summerville.

The Mirror claimed that Chelsea and Liverpool are among the clubs targeting Summerville, who is “unlikely” to want to stay in the Championship.

The Last Koopmeiners

Liverpool are said to have turned their attention from Teun Koopmeiners to one of his Atalanta teammates, Ederson.

Indeed, Italian outlet Tuttosport claimed the Reds are preparing an “assault” for the Brazilian, who featured against Liverpool when the sides met in the Europa League last season.

Such a move is set to “please” Juventus as they prepare to see a potential “dangerous opponent” drop out of the running for the Koopmeiners.
