Cause of fire that kills 10-year-old girl in Bradford as her funeral takes place

The funeral has been held for a 10-year-old girl who died in a house fire in Bradford.

The girl sadly died at the scene following the fire at a house in Kingsdale Drive, Bradford, in the early hours of Sunday.

The funeral service Janaza Announcements named the girl who died as Eliza Bashir and published details of her funeral and funeral service. The funeral took place on Tuesday evening at Jamiyat Tabligh-ul-Islam Bradford Central Mosque, with a burial service at Scholemoor Cemetery, Bradford.

More than 100 people have paid their respects and condolences on the Janaza Announcements Facebook page. One woman posted: “Our thoughts and duas (prayers) are with the family at this very difficult time. I am so sorry for your loss”.

Another woman wrote: “Slayer. RIP Eliza.”

The girl’s mother, 37, and three brothers, aged 11, six and two, managed to escape from the house and were taken to hospital for treatment. Today, a spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the fire was being treated as “accidental” but said “we are not in a position to disclose an exact cause at this time”.

West Yorkshire Police said the family were being supported by specially trained officers. A police file will be prepared for the coroner before an inquest hearing into the circumstances.
