One of the major attractions of flying to warmer climes is the opportunity to relax on sunny beaches next to clear blue waters. However, what if we said you could experience all of this without even setting foot outside the country?

An unassuming beach in Britain has attracted attention after it was noticed that it resembles those in the Caribbean. Blessed with beautiful blue waters and golden sands, you could be forgiven for thinking you’ve traveled halfway across the globe to reach this heavenly spot – but it’s actually located in Cornwall.

The buzz around the beach grew when it appeared in a post by TikTok user @carbisbayhotelandestate: an account representing the luxury property Carbis Bay in St Ives, Cornwall. The property has its own private beach, but luckily for us, the mesmerizing stretch of gold shared in the clip is open to all.

This gem, known as Pedn Vounder Beach, nestles on the south coast of Cornwall’s Penwith Peninsula. Before you rush to pack your sunscreen and beach towel to visit Pedn Vounder Beach, there are a few pertinent points to keep in mind. First, because of its isolated location, it is a tidal beach that disappears altogether during high tide.

Access can only be provided by boat or on foot, but note that the latter involves a “difficult climb” up steep cliffs. Be prepared for some eyesores if you’re planning a trip to Pedn Vounder Beach, it’s not officially a naturist spot, but it’s become a popular spot for avid sunbathers. Approach signs warn: “naturists may be seen beyond this point”.

Explore Cornwall suggests hitting the sands before the school holiday rush as it gets “very busy” at peak times. They note that the beach enjoys excellent sun in the middle of the day due to its south-facing position and high cliffs, but is shaded until late afternoon.

Reviews for Pedn Vounder are overwhelmingly positive. One visitor gushed to Google: “Still amazing. What a fabulous water color, I really enjoyed it.” Others were equally impressed, with comments such as: “The best and most amazing beach you can find in the UK. This place made us think we were in the Caribbean.”
