Britain’s Got Talent: Coventry cheerleaders prepare for semi-final

A team of cheerleaders said they wanted to put on a high-energy performance and inspire others in their sport in the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent.

Coventry Dynamite’s Lady Grenades will take to the stage to perform for judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli during the live broadcast of the ITV talent show on Tuesday.

The crowd were promised by the group an appearance that would highlight the athleticism, artistry and team spirit of the team they said “define this exhilarating sport”.

The team won plaudits in the first round of the competition and received a yes from all four judges, with Cowell describing them as “absolutely brilliant”.

Lady Grenades captain Leshay Bravo said: “We are delighted and honored to perform on the legendary Britain’s Got Talent stage.

“This is an incredible opportunity to showcase the athleticism of cheerleading.

“We hope to inspire other athletes and bring more recognition to this amazing UK sport.”

Made up of members between the ages of 13 and 19, the Lady Grenades have won numerous national and international titles, most recently placing third at the World Cheerleading Championships.

Speaking to BBC Radio CWR, team member Izy said she was excited for the semi-final, adding that she was looking forward to seeing hosts Ant and Dec, as well as “performing and having a great time”.

Teammate Phoebe said: “It’s a great opportunity to perform on Britain’s Got Talent.”

The Lady Grenades will compete for a place in the show’s grand final, with the overall winner receiving a £250,000 prize and winning a place at the Royal Variety Performance.

Their semi-final will be shown on ITV on Tuesday at 8pm BST.
