Wigan were denied by Bournemouth’s late goal

LONDON (Reuters) – Premier League Bournemouth survived a huge FA Cup third round thrashing on Saturday, drawing in extra time at home to League One (third tier) leaders Wigan Athletic.

Cup winners in 2013, the year they were relegated from the top flight, Wigan led 2-0 at half-time.

Northern Ireland striker Will Grigg put them ahead in just the fourth minute and just before the half-hour mark, a free-kick from former Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell was deflected by Bournemouth’s Emerson Hyndman.

The hosts, who have just moved out of the relegation places in the Premier League, had risked making eight changes.

They made two more with second-half substitutions and got a goal back through France’s Lys Mousset.

Ryan Fraser’s free-kick then bounced off a post but defender Steve Cook won a replay in the 92nd minute.
