Sheffield Wednesday have offered huge potential in their search for Premier League talent

Sheffield Wednesday may have just received a huge potential boost in their pursuit of the Premier League man.

Sheffield Wednesday look set to step up their summer transfer plans after securing the future of manager Danny Rohl.

The German manager has signed a new three-year extension after guiding the Owls to 20th place in the 2023/24 Championship campaign.

He and his Hillsborough recruitment team now have a number of transfer targets on their radar, including loan trio James Beadle, Ian Poveda and Ike Ugbo.

The Owls are also keen to sign former Liverpool talent Ovie Ejaria, as well as January targets Duncan McGuire and Mika Biereth.

The latter joined Austrian side Sturm Graz from Sheffield Wednesday in January and went on to score five and assist a further two in 15 appearances in the Austrian Bundesliga.

He helped Sturm win the league and the Austrian champions are keen to sign the Arsenal striker, along with Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday have given Mika Biereth a potential boost

It was recently revealed that Arsenal were set to hold talks with Sturm Graz over the possibility of Biereth joining the Austrian club permanently this summer.

But new reports from Austria suggest that Graz are dropping out of the race to sign Biereth this summer.

Kleine Zeitung claims it is “unlikely” that Sturm will re-sign Biereth this summer due to England’s interest.

Rohl needs strikers this summer with the likes of Josh Windass out of contract and names like Lee Gregory and Ashley Fletcher already gone, along with Ugbo.

Why Sheffield Wednesday like Mika Biereth

At 21, Biereth is a young player. And he has just enjoyed the best season of his career, having previously scored six and assisted a further five for Motherwell in the first half of the 2023/24 campaign.

So his stock is high and with Sheffield Wednesday in desperate need of reducing the average age of their squad this summer, a move for Biereth certainly makes sense.

And it’s also interesting to note that Wednesday continues to be linked to players they’ve been linked to before; McGuire and Biereth two examples that show the confidence the Owls have in recruiting chief Kevin Beadell.

But as always, the Owls must strike soon if they are to land the players they want to sign this summer.

And after looking like they were fast out of the race for Biereth, this latest report from Austria could prove to be a lifeline for the Owls.
