Five-day warning for all rail passengers

Commuters are facing a number of changes to train timetables this weekend.

The national railway timetable is changed twice a year. The current timetable will run until Saturday 1 June and will be replaced by a new timetable from Sunday 2 June until Saturday 14 December this year.

For Merseyside passengers, there are a few changes to note. Merseyrail has yet to publish details of its timetable updates, but Northern, Transport for Wales and Transpennine Express have all provided updates.

On its website, Northern said: “Most June 2024 services will run at the same level as the current December 2023 schedule, with some slight re-scheduling.”

In good news for passengers traveling between Liverpool and Manchester Airport, Northern has announced that there will be “more longer 4-car trains on Liverpool – Manchester Airport services”.

According to the Transpennine Express website, there will be “an increase in services between the North West of England and Scotland” – including Liverpool Lime Street to Edinburgh/Glasgow Central. On the new timetable, it appears there will be a service ‘every two hours’ between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central.
