AFC Wimbledon could target Simon Moore and Jordan Smith

AFC Wimbledon could be targeting Simon Moore and Jordan Smith following their exits from Coventry City and Stockport County respectively, as detailed in a report by London News Online.

AFC Wimbledon are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper ahead of next season. They are preparing for another year in League 2 after failing to reach the play-offs.

Moore, 34, severed ties with Coventry City this summer, with his contract set to officially expire at the end of next month. As for Smith, he also became a free agent following Stockport County’s promotion to League One.

In this latest update on Johnnie Jackson’s search for reinforcements between the sticks, London News Online have reported that the available pair have emerged as potential options for the Dons.

They have vacancies to fill in that department following the departure of Nik Tzanev and the end of Alex Bass’ loan from Sunderland.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Moore is an experienced goalkeeper and would be a safe pair of hands for AFC Wimbledon if they can land him.

He has made over 250 appearances in his career to date and has spent the last three years with Coventry City in the Championship.

The Sky Blues signed him in 2021 and since then he has played 46 games for Mark Robins’ side. The stopper has also had spells at Brentford, Cardiff City, Bristol City and Sheffield United in the past.

Moore played for the Blades when they were promoted from the third tier to the Premier League under Chris Wilder.

As for Smith, he linked up with Stockport County last July but was used as a back-up at Edgeley Park behind Ben Hinchliffe.

The Derbyshire-born man rose through the ranks at Nottingham Forest and made 54 first-team appearances, as well as having loan spells with the Reds at Barnsley, Mansfield Town and Huddersfield Town to fuel his development.

The 29-year-old was not offered an extension by the Hatters following their last promotion under Dave Challinor and will weigh up his options.

Both Moore and Smith would be good signings for AFC Wimbledon as they look to mount a promotion fee next year.

The Dons finished last term in 10th place and are well placed to build on that under Jackson’s guidance.
