Pub-goers were treated to a bit of the past at The Dove Inn, Alburgh

A small but resilient group of Vikings has re-emerged in a small area of south Norfolk as pub-goers were treated to a taste of history.

The show, which was organized by re-enactment group Jormungandr Austr, took place on May 18 in the grounds of The Dove Inn in Alburgh.

It included a Viking camp, archery, ax throwing and a battle demonstration.

Owner Sonya Remblance said the event was a great success.

“We are very lucky to have such historical groups in the area and we saw so many families with happy children enjoying the day,” she told Diss Express.

“Last summer was our first Viking Day and it was very popular so we hope to continue hosting them every year.

“People stayed until the end of the event and we had beautiful weather too so it really was a great day for everyone.”

The village council plans to organize other events during the summer.

“We’re a bed and breakfast as well as a pub and we have an acre of land to use so we want to use that to support social events and get families to enjoy themselves,” Ms Remblance said.

“We’re looking to host crafts and pop-up bands and we’re looking to have the Viking group again on August 17.”
