The Quarrymen set about playing an intimate gig at their old stomping ground

The Quarrymen return to their former high school – Calderstones School, formerly known as Quarry Bank High – for a special concert.

The show on Saturday 6th July will be an opportunity for fans to witness the John Lennon band responsible for creating the Beatles. The evening begins with a question and answer session where The Quarrymen will take a trip down memory lane, sharing stories about John Lennon, their formative years at Quarry Bank High, the experiences that shaped their sound and the path that led them and the Beatles to fame.

There will also be the chance to submit questions in advance and view a range of Quarry Bank, The Quarrymen and John Lennon memorabilia. Following the Q&A, the band will perform the skiffle and early rock music that influenced the birth of the Beatles. The audience will also be treated to a selection of greatest hits and fan favourites.

Rod Davis, original Quarrymen member and Quarry Bank alumnus, said: “It’s a great honor for us to return to play at Quarry Bank with The Quarrymen, which is where John Lennon started his skiffle group in schoolchildren in 1956 with a bunch of his. fellow fourth form.

“We were just a bunch of guys having fun and trying to impress the local ladies and none of us were thinking about a career in music. However, John, who was not exactly an academic success at school, soon came along. to think that if Elvis could make it, and Little Richard could make it, then maybe there was a chance for him.

“I played the interval for a Quarry Bank School dance with the George Edwards Band, in the very same hall we will be playing on Saturday 6th July. Coincidentally, this is the 67th anniversary of the day John Lennon met Paul McCartney at St.Peter’s Garden Fete in Woolton – the start of their musical partnership which eventually led to The Beatles.”
