Homes under the hammer Tommy Walsh topped with a ‘tough’ flat in Lewisham with a hefty price tag

Homes Under the Hammer visited Lewisham during Wednesday’s (May 29) episode as host Tommy Walsh looked at a one-bedroom Victorian conversion which has been put up for auction. The freehold property was located in Ladywell, with quick links to central London, and was valued at £245,000.

But as soon as he entered the south London flat through a door at the back of the property, Tommy didn’t seem impressed and it was clear the house was in desperate need of modernisation. “It’s going to need some TLC, a lot,” said the room host.

“This must be the living room because you have the fire in here,” he added as he eyed the setting skeptically. Tommy then went on to explore the property, urging the buyers to restore the bedroom to its original features.

He said: “With a little creativity, this could be restored to its former glory.” Walking into the kitchen, he said it “looked a bit rough” before pointing out that the boiler had been installed over the kitchen sink.

The rotten ceiling was also falling. “It’s a bit rough, for me this is a rewind and start again,” added Tommy.

On a positive note, the builder explained that the property had a lot of potential and could be even bigger thanks to a large basement and garden area.

Business owner and property developer Dharmesh purchased the property for £270,000. But after applying to Lewisham Council for planning permission to convert the basement, it was refused.
