The Mighty Hoopla Festival is in doubt as organizers await Lambeth Council’s review

Lambeth Council says it is working with its event partner to manage the impact of the weekend’s heavy rain on Brockwell Park following the cancellation of the Brockwell Bounce today.

Ahead of this weekend’s planned Mighty Hoopla festivals, the council approved extra measures for the events space at Brockwell Park to “ensure the safety of visitors and protect muddy areas from damage ahead of the weekend”.

This involves using specialist carpet with a thin layer of wood chips on top – a technique that has been used successfully at a number of other large events, including Radio 1’s Big Weekender in Luton.

However, in a statement today. The council said that, “this work is subject to ongoing assessments and risk assessment, and a final decision on whether Mighty Hoopla will go ahead is yet to be made.”

The poor state of the park also casts a shadow over the council’s flagship Lambeth Country Show, which is scheduled to take place next weekend.
