Manchester United 1-1 Southampton 2013-14 XI: Where are they now?

Manchester United ended what many saw at the time as a disappointment of a First league season with a 1-1 draw at Southampton.

Manchester United finished the season in 7th place, missing out on European football for the first time since 1989–90, when English clubs were banned from competing at continental level.

United started the season with the Scotsman David Moyes at the helm but the end of the season saw Manchester United the legend Ryan Giggs takes the first steps as interim manager.

David De Gea

The Spaniard had just finished his third season at Manchester United after the match.

He went on to win two First league Golden Gloves because he established himself as one of the best in the world.

De Gea now finds himself without a club following the expiry of his contract with The red devils at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Patrice Evra

The flying Frenchman left the club in the summer following the season for the Italian giants Juventus.

He spent three seasons at Torino before beginning his infamous spell at MARSEILLE which lasted all of nine months after an incident during a warm-up before a Europa League Match. He then moved back to England, playing for West Ham United.

He now appears occasionally as a pundit, but is better known for his social media presence.

Rio Ferdinand

2013-14 proved to be Ferdinand’s last at United.

Previous England the captain played just one more season, signing for Queens Park Rangers behind him Manchester United Exit.

He now appears regularly on TNT Sport as a pundit.

Chris Smalling

Smalling captained the team a few times under Louis Van Gaal.

Moved on loan to AS Roma in 2019 before moving permanently next season.

Nemanja Vidić

The no-nonsense Serbian left United at the end of the season, joining Inter Milan to a free transfer.

He recently ran for the position of president of the Serbian Football Federation.

Juan Mata

Mata left Manchester for Istanbul, signing for Galatasaray in 2022.

He is a free agent after exiting the League J1 side Vissel Kobe.

AMr. Januzaj

The former child prodigy never lived up to the hype around him Manchester United.

The Belgian has had a fine career though, boasting the likes of Real Sociedad and Sevilla on his list of clubs.

Darren Fletcher

Fletcher played one more season at United before brief spells at West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City respectively.

He is now Technical Director TO Manchester United, a post he has held since 2021.

Shinji Kagawa

The Japanese midfielder left the club at the end of the season after a difficult spell.

He returned to his former club Borussia Dortmund for an undisclosed fee.

He now plays for his childhood club Cerezo Osakawho joined in January 2023.

Danny Welbeck

Welbeck was yet another to leave the club at the conclusion First league season.

Welbeck joined the league rivals Arsenalleaving Gunners for Watford in 2019 after scoring 16 goals in 88 appearances.

Welbeck is now at Brighton from arrival in 2020.

Robin Van Persie

The Flying Dutchman is gone Manchester United for new pastures in Turkey with Fenerbahçe.

Van Persie ended his playing career at his boyhood club Feyenoord.

He was recently appointed manager of the Dutch team Heerenveen.

Michael Carrick

Carrick is currently the manager of the Championship outfit Middlesborough.

The Englishman spent a further 4 years at Old Trafford before taking up a role as a sub coach Jose Mourinho, being promoted to the position of Assistant Manager under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and taking the reins following the departure of the Norwegian.

Xavier Hernández

Chicharito spent the following season on loan at real madrid before ending his five-year stay at Manchester United to join Bayer Leverkusen.

He returned to England to play for West Ham United, two seasons later he joined Sevilla before leaving for Los Angeles.

He returned to play for his hometown club Guadalajara in January 2024.

Antonio Valencia

Former Manchester United captain Valencia came on in the 89th minute against Southampton.

The defender left United in 2019 after amassing over 300 appearances for the Manchester club.

He retired in 2021 after a stint in Mexico with Queretaro and now he is doing well CD Tumbaco AV25club he founded together with his brother Eder.
