The story of the search for missing long-haul trucker Brian Lush came to a tragic end on Monday after the 51-year-old’s remains were found, but the next chapter of that story unfolded when he was found inside his trailer by Royal. Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) after the vehicle was driven back to Newfoundland.

“Human remains were found by the RCMP inside a tractor-trailer unit that had been driven from Ontario to Port aux Basques, NL,” said an RCMP statement released to the media. “The Office of the Chief Coroner is staffed. The investigation continues with initial evidence to support foul play not suspected.”

First reported by CBC News in Newfoundland on Tuesday, Eastern Ontario OPP said they are now conducting a review of the process involved in the search for Lush and details will be shared with his family.

CBC reported OPP declined to answer questions about whether police thoroughly searched the truck and trailer before sending them back to the truck’s owner – Downhome Movers Ltd., a furniture moving company – and, if so, how investigators could have failed to find on Lush inside it. The OPP did not respond to questions sent by the Standard-Freeholder on Wednesday.

Although the family did not respond to requests from the Standard-Freeholder, the CBC News article was widely shared on social media, including by some family members who added their own comments when they shared it.

“(Twelve) days of hope, I was there — we didn’t have time to look for the trailer and the OPP said they were the best. The best didn’t do their job. We wish this nightmare didn’t come to that. You were so loved Brian,” read a post from Lush’s daughter-in-law Karlie Anne as she shared the CBC article.

Lush’s daughter Chloe White also shared the story in a post on social media, saying ridiculously.

Lush was first reported missing on April 24, a day after his family had not heard from him. He was returning home to Newfoundland and his truck was located at a PetroPass station near Highway 401 and Summerstown Road. Lush had left his personal belongings in the vehicle and was last seen on surveillance footage from the station.

Some people blamed the Cornwall Police Service for the way the investigation was handled, even though the investigation was led by SDG OPP and OPP East Region.

Cornwall police officers were asked to assist the OPP investigation later by searching hotels and motels in the town of Cornwall, Communications Coordinator Rodney Wilson said.
