Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp watched a subtle attempt on Manchester United and Chelsea in their emotional farewell last night.

The legendary manager bid farewell to supporters at a special event at the M&S Bank Arena. The German took part in a Q&A, hosted by John Bishop and Peter McDowall, as he reflected on his time at the club.

Klopp appeared to take aim at some of his Premier League rivals as he explained what separates the Reds from other clubs in the division. The 56-year-old made the comments after the host asked if he had clashed with Reds owners Fenway Sports Group over investment in the transfer market.

Klopp insisted that was never the case, saying: “This is the world we live in. Can anyone imagine if Liverpool City was the club and LFC was the club with endless money? That doesn’t fit, it’s not us. . But that’s how it is.”

Klopp hailed the success the club has achieved over the years as a collective effort, adding: “It’s so impressive what we’ve done together. I mean the owners too. I know them and they’re good people. It’s not as if be. we don’t mind what we think.

“We had tough conversations but what we did, other clubs didn’t do that at the same time. We built two new stands, we built a new training ground. We bought Melwood back, which was the worst thing I’ve ever done. -I ever heard that I sold this.

“We have owners who feel responsible for the club. Are they the best in the world? I don’t know the others so I can’t say that, but they also worked hard for us to be successful. I felt supported. We did it as well as we could and I’m fine with that.”

Klopp appeared to aim a comment on Chelsea’s decision to sack Mauricio Pochettino earlier this month, saying: “We should be very happy that it’s these owners and not guys who bought clubs in London. I wouldn’t have survived. Finally, they play football. that everyone thinks he might come back and they fire the manager anyway’.

Klopp also sent a subtle dig in Manchester United’s direction as he explained the importance of supporting your players as a manager. He said: “If the whole world loses faith and trust in the player, then the manager has to be the one behind the player. I can’t just buy into that ‘he’s useless’ stuff like other clubs have done btw. Buying a player for £80m and then sending him out on loan!”

It appeared to be a reference to United’s decision to loan out Jadon Sancho. Sancho signed for the Red Devils for £73m in July 2021 before being loaned back to Borussia Dortmund last summer, and the winger has played a key role in the team’s journey to the Champions League final this season.
