Manchester United consider Toby Collyer to have first-team potential

Manchester United are under the management of Ineos for the first time this summer and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to avoid spending recklessly in the transfer market.

A report by The Telegraph explains that whoever is the manager next season will be expected to use the academy.

He then goes on to say that United currently view Toby Collyer as the next prospect to make the jump to senior football and become a first-team star.

This would come as no surprise as he has been used regularly on the bench in the final months of the season despite not yet making his debut.

Erik ten Hag has already hinted at this after being seen recreating a famous moment from 2023 with Collyer during the FA Cup Final celebrations.

Collyer could get a huge opportunity this summer

With him now part of the first team squad, it would be a safe bet to assume that Collyer will be heading to the USA on this summer’s pre-season tour.

The tournament could give Collyer a huge opportunity to impress Ten Hag with his midfield options set to be expanded.

Mainoo is likely to miss out as he will be at the Euros with England, a competition expected to go all the way. While Scott McTominay will be with Scotland, although he may not make it that far.

Meanwhile, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could have been sold by this point as both are on the shortlist to leave.

So in that case, Collyer could get a few games to earn his place and prove the club right to see him as having first-team potential.
