Dutch legend van Nistelrooy could replace Maresca

Although Enzo Maresca is yet to put pen to paper on his Chelsea contract, Leicester City are already preparing for his departure by scouring the market for potential replacements.

The Foxes are back in the Premier League at the first time of asking, and to avoid yo-yoing between divisions, they need a manager who can continue Maresca’s good work in the King Power Stadium dugout.

Leicester looked at van Nistelrooy

Clearly, having someone with Premier League experience, either as a player or as a manager, is a must and so Ruud van Nistelrooy certainly fits the bill.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri noted via X (formerly Twitter) that the former Man United striker is being considered as an option to take over the club.

Although he spent his entire managerial career in his native Netherlands, most of his playing days were spent at Man United alongside some legendary players.

The Dutchman will no doubt have learned a lot from his manager at Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson, and the 47-year-old can apply those principles to his own post-playing career.

He also knows what it takes to be successful in the English top flight and can bring experience to United.

Losing Maresca this summer, just after seeing the club promoted as Championship winners, is unlikely to have been on the agenda of the Foxes board, however, it is a situation the club must deal with, and quickly.

The more the Midlands side leave him, the more difficult this summer and pre-season is likely to be for any new starter.

With the summer transfer window opening again shortly, having a new man in place already will be of great help to the club ahead of the new season.
