Current Leeds United transfer status with Liverpool raid, £20m bid update, latest Gray and Rodon

For the second summer in a row, Leeds United are set to enter a difficult period, with the ramifications having a major say in the season ahead and beyond. Much has been made of the fact that the Whites owe almost £190m in payments on past transfer business, with around £70m of that due in the coming weeks as the next installments begin.

A host of players who went out on loan last summer, such as Jack Harrison, Marc Roca and Brenden Aaronson, will technically return to the club for the start of pre-season training, although we doubt that will be the case to all nine borrowers.

Then there is the speculation of Crysencio Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto, Georginion Rutter and Archie Gray all linked with departures from the club in the summer transfer window. For chairman Paraag Marathe and manager Daniel Farke, an important few months lie ahead as they build the squad for another promotion challenge

With that in mind, here’s the latest on a number of Leeds players, with updates on their futures and next moves.

Crysencio Summerville

Transfer speculation comes with the territory of being the Championship player of the season. This is not just wild speculation, however, and the Leeds goalscorer is highly sought after, with up to five Premier Leagues linked with the Dutchman. Liverpool have long been seen as favorites to secure the 22-year-old’s services, thanks in part to new manager Arne Slot being a fellow countryman and known admirer.

Liverpool are not alone in their interest and could find themselves on the outside of a deal should Chelsea come in and overtake them for the second consecutive season in pursuit of one of their top targets. Chelsea may not have a manager at the moment, but the Blues’ transfer committee are fans of Summerville and there is a growing belief that a big one could be coming.

Champions League football would be a big draw for Summerville, who are also attracting interest from West Ham, Fulham and Bournemouth. Currently valued at around £35million, there is little expectation that the forward will still be at Elland Road at the start of next season.

Archie Gray

Arsenal and Bayern Munich are now being linked, along with long-term admirers Liverpool, with a potential move for the 18-year-old this summer. Gray still has four years to run on a new contract only signed in January, but his stock has risen even further since then and he is currently seen as one of the best teenagers in English football.

Leeds are preparing a bid for the teenager, who shone in defense and midfield last season, but no decision has been made at this stage on potential offers and it is likely that any approach will only be considered if it is accompanied by an offer so significant that it could have a major impact on Leeds’ profit approach and sustainability position, while allowing the club to strengthen in the transfer market.

For now, all eyes are on what Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern decide to do next.

Joe Rodon

Leeds United have not given up hope of keeping hold of Joe Rodon despite failing to secure promotion to the Premier League, however that hope has been dashed with news that a number of Premier League clubs are showing interest in signing him on the Tottenham Hotspur player.

The 26-year-old impressed after arriving on loan from Tottenham and, although he is set to join Spurs now his temporary spell at Elland Road is over, he is not expected to feature in Ange Postecoglou’s plans in north London. Signing Rodon on a permanent deal would be a big boost to Daniel Farke’s promotion plans for 2025, however, Leeds must focus primarily on shedding players from the wage bill and tackling the nearly £100m pounds sterling, which is owed in the coming months to clubs for previous transfer deals.

That delay could prove costly if other clubs swoop in, Rodon’s performances for the Whites have drawn attention. Rodon has spoken of how much he has enjoyed his time at Leeds, but also has Premier League ambitions.

Jack Harrison

Everton look set to complete a permanent deal for a player they took on loan a year ago after Leeds United were relegated from the Premier League. Harrison has no ambitions to play in the Championship and has made it clear he would like to stay at Everton, and the Toffees are believed to be interested in striking a deal with the Whites.

Having paid £11m for Harrison when he joined from Manchester City, Leeds will want to try and at least recoup that figure, but Everton know they need to be prudent with their finances, so it may be necessary for a delicate negotiation to take place this summer for a settlement. be agreed which suits all parties.

Matt O’Reilly

A year ago, Leeds United saw their interest in Celtic star Matt O’Reilly end as they were relegated from the Premier League and faced a difficult summer in moving a number of players linked with top wages. Fast forward 12 months and with Leeds facing another year in the Championship and the same legacy contract issues and financial constraints, a deal for the former MK Dons man looks highly unlikely.

Leeds have also been linked with Manchester City’s James McAtee, who impressed on loan at Sheffield United, but a stay in the second tier is likely to have ended that interest as well.
