Leeds United they have a new shirt sponsor in the form of Red Bull, who have jointly acquired a minority stake in the club.

The Whites enter a second season in the Championship in 24/25 and are once again looking for automatic promotion under Daniel Farke.

Leeds’ owners, the 49ers, will need to invest to ensure the club is in the right position, which includes securing more minority partners.

Red Bull has been confirmed as new minority investors and shirt sponsor

Thursday morning brought confirmation that Leeds have agreed terms with Red Bull for the energy drink giants to become the new shirt sponsor.

In the process, they agreed to buy a minority stake in the club to join the 49ers’ structure since their takeover a year ago.

Athletic’s Phil Hay said this deal for Red Bull does not include any presence in the Leeds boardroom, a worrying thought for many Leeds fans to consider based on what has happened at other Red Bull affiliated clubs .

Will Leeds be promoted next season?

Red Bull spokesperson shares position on Leeds name change

A primary concern for Leeds fans is Red Bull’s background in football, changing club names in North America, South America and closer to home in Europe.

However, Bloomberg shared what a Red Bull spokesperson had to say about the prospect of changing what Leeds United is as a brand:

“There are no plans to change the Leeds United name to include Red Bull,” a team spokesman said. The size and cost of the stake were not disclosed.

“The acquisition is one of the most important deals since Red Bull’s management was overhauled following the death of its founder in 2022.”

Red Bull Leeds can’t happen in any capacity

The idea of Leeds United not being called that anymore, or changing the badge to something related to Red Bull would be awful.

It would be a total scandal as to how this would be received, and Red Bull certainly did their due diligence on this.

Seeing a ‘red’ sponsor on the shirt might already be enough to frustrate some fans, but to change anything about our heritage would go a long way.
