The Conservative Party has unveiled two of its three Enfield ward candidates in the upcoming general election.

Grange Park councilor and Enfield Civic Center opposition group whip Chris Dey will contest Enfield North for the Tories, while the party has chosen entrepreneur Eric Sukumaran to contest the election in the newly created Southgate and Wood Green constituencies.

Enfield Community Action Group (ECAG), which last week announced it would field independent left-wing candidates in each of the borough’s three seats, has announced that its candidate for Enfield North will be Ertan Karpazli.

The Green Party has also named two more of its candidates; Isobel Whittaker from Enfield North and Luke Balnave, who runs a local cycling business, in Edmonton and Winchmore Hill.

Reacting to the selection of his Tory colleague Cllr Dey for the Enfield North contest, Leader of the Opposition Alessandro Georgiou said on Twitter: “I can’t begin to say how happy I am that my colleague, colleague and Enfield Council whip has been selected for this thing. crucial chair.

“If Chris is as good an MP as he is a councillor, then the people of Enfield North will be in very safe hands!”

Eric Sukumaran, the Conservative candidate in Southgate and Wood Green, was described as having “a wealth of experience in the private sector, government and international institutions”. His former employers include the World Bank, while he now runs his own renewable energy consultancy and development business.

Eric said: “Southgate and Wood Green is a wonderful and diverse place that I have known very fondly since I was a child. I am thrilled and honored to be the Conservative candidate.”

Ertan Karpazli is the first of three independent candidates to be nominated by the Enfield Community Action Group, a coalition of local left-wing groups. On his reasons for wanting to stay in Enfield North, he said: “For too long Enfield North has been let down by Labor and the Tories. Running as an independent candidate, I will campaign for policies that actually help our communities and not oversee cuts that destroy them.”
