Recap after ‘technical issue’ blocks all 999 calls to Leicestershire Police

Leicestershire Police’s call center was closed due to a technical fault earlier today. The force announced at 11.25am today (Thursday) that all emergency calls made to 999 had been diverted to operators from Northamptonshire Police for the time being.

Meanwhile, 101 calls and online inquiries went unanswered. In a post on X, the force said: “We are currently experiencing technical issues. All our 999 calls are directed to Northamptonshire Police.




“We are currently unable to respond to 101 calls or online enquiries. Please only call 999 in an emergency. We are working to fix this as soon as possible.”

The system returned to normal at 15.25.

Police released another update: “UPDATE – 3.25pm ​​We are now receiving 999 calls and 101 calls. We also respond to reports that have been made online.

“Thank you for your patience today while we worked to fix these technical issues.”

In another update on X, police added: “Thank you for your continued patience. We are working to fix this as soon as possible.”

999 calls are still being sent to Northants Police and the 101 call system is not working properly.

Online requests are working again

In an update this afternoon at 1.20pm, Leicestershire Police said: “We are now able to answer inquiries online. Reports can be made via our website. Our 999 calls continue to be directed to Northamptonshire Police. We are currently unable to answer 101. calls.”

The “problem” has been going on for an hour

It is now more than an hour since Leicestershire Police first reported the “technical issue” which affected 999 calls in the county. The source of the problem has not been revealed, but the force says it is trying to resolve it “as soon as possible”.

For now, all calls are being forwarded to Northamptonshire Police. People should only call 999 in an emergency.

Online surveys were also affected

The technical issue affecting Leicestershire Police is not just about phone lines. In their statement, the force revealed that its online inquiries service was also affected, as well as non-emergency 101 calls.

For now, all 999 calls to Leicestershire Police are handled by Northamptonshire Police.
