Leicester City are being linked with a €28m move for the striker to help ease the blow of Enzo Maresca

Leicester City’s recruitment process appears to be in full swing despite the expected loss of manager Enzo Maresca to Chelsea.

The man who guided the Foxes back to the Premier League at the first attempt is on the verge of quitting to take over at Stamford Bridge.

But that hasn’t stopped Leicester’s hierarchy from planning their life back in the top flight, with the club undergoing fresh links with AS Roma’s former Chelsea and Aston Villa striker Tammy Abraham.

According to Leggo.it, City are interested in bringing the 26-year-old frontman back to the Premier League. He enjoyed success over three seasons in the Italian capital, but that was mostly under former boss Jose Mourinho. He fell out of favor with new manager Daniele De Rossi, so he was listed for a transfer fee of €28m (£23.8m).

Leicestershire Live understands Maresca’s departure will have minimal impact on any player’s earnings this summer – whether it’s Abraham or anyone else linked. The manager was always involved in the process during his year at the club, although he was only there to make recommendations without full control. Martyn Glover, the club’s head of recruitment, and the scouting team remain the key players in signing players.

The biggest factor in this summer’s dealings would appear to be City’s potential issues with player spending rules, which will likely see them hit with a points penalty before the start of the new season and may have to sell some of their star assets to balance the book.
