The letter read: “Dear Jurgen, I don’t claim to be Liverpool’s biggest fan but I want you to know that I have been there for a good part of your incredible journey. However, from December 2022 until recently, I have been absent.

“My life suddenly turned upside down one day when I woke up in intensive care with pancreatitis. I thought I would never see my home or family again, never mind going to a game. It was my scariest moment. life, I thought I was going to die.

“Six months of fighting later, I’m now proud to say I’m home and my rehabilitation has started and I can get to Anfield. This is not a sob story, but an important message to say that football is a small part of life.”

Klopp wept as Molly paid tribute that the legacy the manager will leave is “more than football”. The letter continued: “You taught us all about believing.

“Believing that if you fight hard enough, you can do it. You can come back from the hardest times, from the impossible. That’s what you gave me Jurgen and thousands of other people. The will to believe and fight .

“With good people by your side, we can always win. At the end of the storm is a golden sky. Thank you more than you will ever know.”

Klopp was visibly moved as he scrolled through the photos sent by Molly. He added: “I read it and I believe it, but when people say it… How can I be?

“If Molly is saying that, that I had that impact on her life…yeah, that’s good. Very good.”
