Sheffield Wednesday could target former Brentford man Charlie Goode

Sheffield Wednesday could consider a move for Charlie Goode following his departure from Brentford, according to a report from The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday are on the lookout for new signings this summer as they prepare for another year in the Championship after surviving last season. They got a big boost from Danny Rohl’s decision to stay put and sign a new contract.

Goode, 28, was released by Brentford and will have a big decision to make as a free agent this summer on where to go next. He spent the second half of last campaign on loan at Wigan Athletic in League One and went on to make 13 appearances in all competitions.

The star claims he could emerge as an option for the Owls as they look for additions ahead of next term. He officially sees his contract with the Bees expire at the end of June.

Who is this?

THE TEST STARTS!

Sheffield Wednesday could see Goode as someone who adds more competition and depth to their defensive department.

The fact that he is available for nothing means they won’t have to pay a transfer fee to lure him to South Yorkshire.

He recently took to X to have his say on his exit from Brentford and said: “Sometimes things just don’t work out for a lot of reasons, a few tough years since I arrived. I feel better than ever and I’m ready for the next chapter! I wish you all the best for the future.”

Goode was given the green light to link up with Wigan Athletic in January to get some game time before returning to the Gtech Community Stadium in mid-April due to injury.

He signed for Northampton Town in 2019 from Scunthorpe United and went on to play 45 games for the Cobblers in League Two before earning a move to the Bees.

Watford have been on the books of the London outfit for the past four years and have been part of their team’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021.

However, he only managed to appear for the London outfit on 20 occasions and was also loaned out to Sheffield United and Blackpool.

Sheffield Wednesday need to make sure they get their recruitment right over the next couple of months.

They will want to avoid another year of struggling in the second tier and Goode would give them another option at the back if they were to bring him to Hillsborough.
