Chris Powell reveals in emotional interview ‘Sheffield Wednesday saved my life in many ways’

“Sheffield Wednesday saved my life in a lot of ways,” Chris Powell reveals in an emotional interview with the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.

The topics in his speech ranged from Sheffield Wednesday, how the club saved his life, the impact of the Sheffield Wednesday fans, the brilliance of Danny Rohl and how they pulled off the miracle and survived in the Championship this season, to all things England, Euro 2024, how Gareth Southgate actually picks his 33- and 26-man squads, as well as which players were unfortunate enough to miss out on the call-up.

They also talk about England’s incredible goalscoring options, how the midfield of Foden, Bellingham and Rice is the strongest in the world, which players are wildcard options and finally how to solve their left-back woes of England, plus provide through their combined England starting XI for future Euro matches.

He said in an extract from his conversation with Sam Allardyce and Natalie Pike: “I have to say, I think Sheffield Wednesday changed my life and saved my life in many ways.

“You know, I had a little health scare that won’t go in. But then I joined Sheffield Wednesday in October, 3 points after eleven games.

“The previous manager came through and I got a call from Danny and someone who also knew Danny before we spoke.

“As you know Sam, sometimes one just feels better by word of mouth. Do you like this role? When I talked to Danny, I thought it would be a good fit for me.

“But I remember telling him, no, it would be a minor miracle if we did it because no one had ever done it. “

He is a fan favorite wherever he goes and the same goes for his current club Sheffield Wednesday, who he says he would love to continue with next season.

Powell stated that the club “got under my skin” and talkSPORT said: “My contract ends in June itself, I haven’t signed until the end of next year like everyone else. That was only because when I met Dan in October – we’d only met a couple of times when I was with England and he was with Germany – we didn’t really know each other and I wasn’t sure how it was done. they would all leave.

“But, as I said, the club has got under my skin and I love working with it. I think he can be a very, very good manager higher up – whether it’s the Premier League or the Bundesliga, whatever he wants to do. I think he has the makings for it.

“There’s a long way to go for him, a lot of learning that will always continue. We will see where they are and where we end up, but one thing is certain – the first part is completed, staying in the championship. The second part is now about trying to progress… I really hope we can continue on this great journey we’ve had, these seven months have been incredible.”

And this is how good he is…
