Households in Wiltshire who subscribe to garden waste collection are being asked to renew or risk missing a collection.

But we are warned that the price is rising again this year to £70, up from £66 in 2023 and £60 the previous year.

Renewals must be made online (newtab) or by calling 0300 456 0103 by June 28 to ensure their collections continue without a gap.

Waste crews know who is registered for garden waste collection using in-vehicle technology and stickers on green bins.

Green bins have helped recycle 32,000 tonnes of waste in the past year, with 84,000 households signed up.

Cllr Dominic Muns, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:

“From 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024, we collected over 32,000 tonnes of garden waste from over 84,000 households in Wiltshire.

“All garden waste collected in Wiltshire is composted locally, which helps reduce pollution and also diverts waste from landfill.

“Wiltshire residents can buy this compost in bags from any of our household recycling centers or directly from Hills Waste Solutions if larger volumes are required.

“Our aim is to reduce the amount of Wiltshire’s waste going to landfill as much as possible. As well as composting all the garden waste we collect, we ask people to recycle as much of their household waste as possible. Our award-winning Recycling Let’s Sort It campaign, we encourage people to sort their waste before visiting household recycling centers or use the on-site sorting tables if they can’t sort their waste at home website or sorting stations means that we can recycle more material and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. Please visit our website to learn more and help us reduce waste and pollution to protect the environment.

“I thank residents in advance for all their support in helping us recycle as much as possible.

Green bins can take bark, grass clippings, cut flowers, weeds, leaves, hedge clippings, twigs and small branches.

Items such as fruit and vegetable peels, food waste, soil and debris, pet litter and animal waste should go in the black bin, while cardboard and paper should go in the blue lidded bin.
